Pilot dead after Tampa small plane crash

TAMPA, FL -- A Hillsborough County man is dead after the single engine airplane he was piloting crashed in Tampa.

Authorities have identified the pilot as 54-year-old Ki L. Martin, from Wimauma, Florida. Martin was reportedly taking off from Tampa Executive Airport in a single engine plane around 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Shortly after getting airborne on takeoff, the plane went down and crashed for reasons that are unknown at this time. Emergency personnel found Martin dead inside the plane. He was the only one on board.

The National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration and the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority are among the organizations working to determine the cause of the crash.
