SHEFFIELD LAKE, OH (RNN) -Firefighters came to the rescue of a 45-year-old woman that was being attacked by a rescued boa constrictor that wrapped around her and biting her face.

According to the Sheffield Lake Fire Department, crews arrived to the woman's home on East Lake Road on Thursday afternoon and found her laying in the driveway. The woman, who has two boa constrictors and nine ball pythons, had the 5-foot long snake wrapped around her neck and biting her nose. She told the 911 operator that there was blood everywhere.

During the call to 911, the dispatcher can be heard saying, "I've never heard of this before."

Firefighters had to cut the snake's head off the remove it from the woman's face.

Mayor of Sheffield Lake, Dennis Bring says the first responders saved the woman's life.

"I'm just really pleased with the paramedics response and you know the thought, to think that quick to take out a pocket knife. obviously he had to destroy the snake but he had no other choice," said Mayor Bring.

The dead snake was then thrown into a dumpster at Sheffield Lake City Hall.

The woman was taken to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  Friday, an empty snake cage was spotted on her front yard.

The woman declined an on camera interview.

Mayor Bring says he believes she's traumatized and thinking about her other pet snakes.

"I would imagine the bite was very painful so she's gonna have to put up with that while too. And now she's gonna have to make a decision on whether she continues to do this. But, we'll see," he said.
