LEAF RIVER, IL WTVO/CNN) -  A firefighter in Illinois was killed after a blaze gutted his own family home on Friday morning.

Three other people managed to get out of the house in Leaf River after the fire started. Two of them were seriously injured, and they were later hospitalized.

But after the blaze was put out, officials say they found the body of 19-year-old firefighter Gregory Wood.

The local fire chief says he's never seen a house go up in flames so fast. "Not with a fatality. I've seen bad fires but this is, the speed that this house went up was abnormal. I normally don't see them, they go fast but not like this did,” said Chief Steve Shelton of the Leaf River Fire department.

The cause of the fire at the two-story home is still under investigation.
