SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested two men for passing counterfeit $100 bills at several Siesta Key convenience stores and bars.
Patrol deputies responded to several calls reporting that two men bought multiple items with fraudulent bills. Witnesses said the suspects were driving a Red Jeep Wrangler, which deputies located on Bee Ridge Road a short time later.
The driver, Zachery Brewer of Sarasota was taken into custody after the store clerks identified him as one of the suspects.
Tactical Unit deputies searched for the second suspect and found Erik Brittain exiting an apartment near Hillview Street. Brittain was also taken into custody and admitted to the crimes.
Brittain is a prolific offender with more than a dozen arrests for crimes including cocaine trafficking, child neglect and armed home invasion robbery.
Both men were already on felony probation so they are also charged with violation of probation. Brewer is also charged with one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
