MANATEE, FL. -- An accident at the Port of Manatee sent a worker to the hospital by helicopter at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 23.

While Logistec employees were loading a forklift onto a Fresh Quest fruit ship, a cable on the ship's crane snapped, striking one of the men. He was reportedly conscious while being treated.

The man was airlifted to Bayside Medical Center in St. Petersburg. The director of operations for Logistec says the victim is a surveyor hired by Fresh Quest. The extent of his injuries as of Saturday night is unknown, but Logistec's director of operations was quoted as saying that the worker is "fine."

The accident put the ship's crane out of operation, and a different crane was moved into place to continue with the unloading.
