MANATEE COUNTY - A Palmetto woman suffered serious injures Tuesday when she crashed into a county school bus while distracted. Nobody on the bus was injured.

It happened on Moccasin Wallow Road just west of U.S. 41 at 3:17pm Tuesday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 64-year-old Darlene Polonski of Palmetto was driving westbound on Moccasin Wallow when she was distracted by her dog, causing her to steer to the left just as a school bus was approaching from the opposite direction.

The left front of Polonski's car struck the left side of the bus, causing it to rotate and come to a rest in the westbound lane.

Polonski, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Nobody on the bus, which contained 5 students and the driver, sustained any injuries.

Polonski was charged with Failure To Maintain Lane.
