ELLENTON - An event in Ellenton this weekend honored those deployed overseas in the U.S. military.

The Am Vets Post 301 in Ellenton hosted the event Saturday, which included entertainment, a bake sale and a silent auction.

The purpose of the event is to remember the service members throughout the year and to raise money to send care packages.

Organizers asked for $10 dollars admission with money going to Manasota Operation Troop Support and Honor Flight of Southwest Florida.

The group sends care packages filled with food and mail each month to every service member from Sarasota and Manatee counties stationed in the Middle East they can find.
