MANATEE COUNTY - A rear-end crash Monday afternoon sent 5 people to the hospital - including a one year child.

Troopers responded to the crash around 3:34pm on Cortez Road near 106th Street West.

They say 19-year-old Rennee Lux was driving westbound on Cortez Road when she plowed into the back of a Saturn carrying 4 people, which had been stopped in the road for a dog in their lane. The Saturn was pushed into a ditch by the collision.

A one-year-old child in the Saturn was critically injured and flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, along with a 15-year-old girl who suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the Saturn, her passenger, and Lux were taken to hospitals by ambulance.

Lux will be charged with Careless Driving.

All five people were wearing seat belts/child restraints.
