BRADENTON BEACH – The water temperature along Suncoast beaches this New Year’s Day may be mild compared to beaches up north, but that didn’t stop dozens of people from ringing in the New Year at the 5th annual Shamrock Shiver!

Dozens of people showed up in Bradenton Beach to take a dip the chilly 63-degree Gulf waters, all in the name of raising money for local charities.

Organizers say the event started with a just a few friends looking for a fun way to celebrate the New Year. Five years later, it has grown into a community event that has raised more than $80,000 for charity, mostly children’s charities.
