MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - A Suncoast resident is a step closer to becoming the next American Idol.

The judges all voting 17-year-old Braden River High School senior Sam Woolf through to the next round in Hollywood.

Clips from Monday night's show include Woolf singing to a crowd at MacAllister's on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch.

Woolf sang an up-tempo version of Ed Sheeran's "Lego House" for judges Harry Connick, Jr., Keith Urban, and Jennifer Lopez – all of whom voted Woolf to the next round in Hollywood.

"My daughters are going to go absolutely crazy for that kid," said Connick.

We wish him the best of luck.
