ANNA MARIA - A strongman contest on Anna Maria Island benefits victims of domestic violence.

On Sunday, the Beach House Restaurant hosted the contest called, "Brawn on the Beach."

Competitors paid to test their muscles in various feats of strength.

First prize paid $500, but most of the proceeds went to a group called hope family services, which runs a shelter and provides support for victims of domestic violence. The event also raised awareness.

This is the second year of the event. Last year's raised $7,000.

City Fitness donated the equipment for the contest.
