BRADENTON, Fla. - Manatee County officials are currently monitoring a storm drain collapse that opened a large hole in a Bradenton roadway.
Officials say the storm drain pipe failed because of washout from the heavy rains Wednesy morning near the 6700 block of 18th Avenue West in Northwest Bradenton, not far from Blake Medical Center. A preliminary investigation suggests that a joint on buried 54-inch storm drain pipe that crosses under the street may have failed.
The hole is approximately 15' by 20' and about 12 inches deep.
One resident tells ABC 7 she drove over the very spot where the hole was moments before it occurred. "This morning when I drove over it was significantly more of a dip. I was like wow, that’s a dip," says Chris Fletcher.
There were no accidents, or injuries associated with this incident, and no apparent danger to the surrounding residences. Motorists are asked to avoid the area during their travels.
Officials say it could take up to 2 weeks before the repairs are completed.
