BRADENTON, FL. - A Bradenton woman is recovering after allegedly being shot in the face by her husband.

Bradenton Police say Steven Pinel shot his wife as she slept at a home in the 4800 block of 51st Street West on Friday. Amazingly, she survived and ran to a neighbor's house.

Police now say a gun malfunction may have allowed her to flee.

Police say Pinel sped away and crashed his car in a ditch near I-75 and State Road 70, possibly breaking his neck on impact. He unsuccessfully tried to hijack the car of a Good Samaritan that stopped to help.

Pinel is now being held without bond. His wife's injuries are not considered life threatening.
