BRADENTON - Downtown Bradenton's "Pink Palace" is quickly becoming a Hampton Inn. Renovations on the historic hotel are now at the halfway point.

It first opened in the 1920's as the Manatee River Hotel. In more recent times it was known as the Pink Palace for its unmistakable color. As a Hampton Inn, it will revert back to the historic color of the building, beige.

Manatee County Chamber of Commerce president Bob Bartz thinks this hotel is exactly what downtown Bradenton needs. "We've needed more hotel property in the downtown area for quite some time. And with the fact that they're not really gonna have a full service restaurant here, we think that's going to benefit all the restaurants on Main Street and elsewhere in the area. So they're excited, they can't wait for new guests to be here to frequent their establishments. We think it’s going to be a real asset to the Riverwalk, to the Manatee Players, so there's lots of things happening right now that all fit together that make this an exciting time for downtown Bradenton."

The new downtown Bradenton Hampton Inn is expected to open in late November or early December.
