One person dead after vehicle drives off I-75 early Monday morning

MANATEE COUNTY - An Arcadia woman is dead and another man injured following an early Monday morning crash on the interstate.

It happened around 3:45am in the southbound lanes of I-75 in Bradenton.  According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Hector Gomez of Arcadia was driving his Jeep southbound and failed to follow a curve in the road.

The vehicle crashed through three fences and several small trees near the water tower, and came to a rest on its side.

Gomez suffered serious injuries and was taken to Blake Trauma Center in Bradenton.  His passenger, 34-year-old Maria Garza, died at the scene.

Charges are pending.
