MANATEE COUNTY - A fatal crash involving a vehicle towing a U-Haul trailer resulted in the death of a North Port man Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:15pm in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 216, which is near the Linger Lodge overpass, north of the University Parkway exit.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV driven by 81-year-old Kasper Flueck of North Port was towing a U-Haul box trailer when the trailer began to sway.  The swaying motion caused the vehicle to jackknife, and the SUV overturned.

Kasper Flueck died at the scene.  His passenger, 70-year-old Rosetta Flueck, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.  They both were wearing seat belts.

The crash caused extensive backups in both directions, as northbound traffic was reduced to just one lane for about three hours.

W-FIVE discovered, there are many unsafe U-hauls on Canadian roads.

With 15,000 dealers and 170,000 trucks and trailers on the road in North America, U-Haul is the largest "do-it yourself" moving company on the continent. Its orange, black and white trademark is instantly recognizable to most Canadians. But a W-FIVE investigation has once again found that, all too often, U-Haul trucks don't meet provincial safety standards.

In last season's "Risky Move" episode, W-FIVE safety-tested U-Hauls in four major Canadian cities. Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary.

The test results were shocking to W-FIVE's viewers: broken gear shifts, dangerous frames and no rear brakes were just some of the problems exposed by the mechanical checkups. Thirteen U-Haul trucks were tested by licensed mechanics to see if they met the provincial standards. All thirteen failed.

Boucher says 'We're looking at the age of our fleet and we're going to replace the age, our oldest trucks.'

    10.4 million verdict
The Burke case is a prime example of a family who was in great need of an attorney who knows how to fight for their injuries in the civil court system. The Burke family was injured while pulling a U-Haul towing dolly, which was pulling their Ford Explorer. The dolly was represented as a safe moving tool, and the Burkes relied on this representation of safety. The dolly caused the vehicle being towed, and the towing vehilce to jacknife; resulting in serious injuries to the Burke family, injuries that left Mrs. Corry Burke a paraplegic.

Please wake up!!!! go to Dangerous Trailers Dot org and know that U HAUL has lobbied against any safety regulations on these trailers! They have increased the speed limit from 45 to 55 on these trailers. These trailers have NOT AND NEVER been tested to see what happens when they start to sway!! Also...we ask...should a 81 year old man drive a double axle trailer over 3,000 gvwr on a SUV that is not rated to tow that much and never had any training?

    Wake up already.

UHaul has to be held responsible for this!!! This happened to my husband, sister, infant nephew and I in October. We were traveling from Fort Drum, New York to Florida after seeing my brother-in-law off to Afghanistan. We hit the DC area, and the Uhaul became unhinged, started swaying back and forth, moving us across 5 lanes of traffic. I looked into my side mirror (passanger side), and we were on two wheels starting to flip. By God's hands and my husbands AMAZING driving skills, we managed to to flip or hit anyone else. Slowly we managed to make it to the side of I-495, where we sat for more than 8 hours waiting for UHaul to send a wrecker. THEY ARE HORRIBLE!!! It took over 30 phone calls before anyone showed up. After 7 hours, the Virginia Highway Patrol (after checking on us numerous times and keeping flares behind us in the rain) called the wrecker used to help VHP cars to help get us off at the nearest exit, where we continued to wait. More people need to know how faulty UHauls equipment is! How many more people need to die before UHaul does the right thing??????
