MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - A Suncoast man faces charges for reporting a crime that never happened.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says that 26-year-old Broderick Furlow called a national hotline to say that he had abducted a 9-year-old girl and dumped her body.

He didn't say who or where he was, but detectives say they traced the phone he used. When they talked to him Friday, he admitted that the kidnapping never happened. It was a prank.

Furlow faces a charge of Filing a False Report.
