MANATEE COUNTY - If you've been thinking about adopting a new cat or dog this holiday season, you can get the best price in town through Manatee County Animal Services.
Everything that comes with adopting a cat or dog through Animal Services, like a health check and vaccinations are all waived the next several days.
As there are lots of after Christmas sales in stores, Manatee County Animal Services is doing their own on adoptions at a price anyone can afford...Free.
“We wanted to take advantage of that after Christmas blitz, I guess you could call it, offering dogs and cats at no charge, absolutely free to the public,” says Kris Weiskopf.
It includes the animal getting a health check, vaccinations and being spayed, neutered and a microchip. “Unfortunately we saw for December our pet adoptions actually declined slightly, so we'd like to boost them back up there again,” says Weiskopf.
Especially with Manatee County working to become a No-Kill Community. ”Whatever we can do to get the animals out into good forever homes.”
There is a small disclaimer though. Manatee county residents have to purchase a license certificate and tag, which will run you only $15. Animal services workers say it’s a small price to pay for the happiness that comes with bringing home a new member of the family. “If you've ever thought of adopting before, definitely adopt a shelter pet. We always say don't shop, adopt, don't go to the breeders or anything like that. There are plenty of dogs and cats in this county that are looking for good homes and deserve that second chance,” says Kris Weiskopf.
The special is available at both Animal Services locations: in Palmetto, 305 25th St. W. (open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and in Bradenton, 1002 B., Manatee Ave. W., (open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
