BRADENTON, Fla. - Manatee High School baseball coach Dwayne Strong resigned from his coaching position Friday. This coming as the Bradenton Police Department investigates Strong for alleged financial improprieties.

An email from Strong sent to the Manatee High staff says he is deciding to take his career in a different direction.

The district recently started investigating the baseball program after some financial problems were uncovered. According to the Bradenton Herald, Strong did not hold a professional certificate when he coached last season, as mandated by state statute.

That statute says a coach who voluntarily renders service and is not employed by a school district does not need to hold a certificate.

And although the district says Strong did not receive a monetary stipend to coach baseball last season, he was employed at Manatee High as an in-school suspension teacher. Both his teaching and coaching certifications were expired.
