MANATEE COUNTY - Authorities are looking for a suspect in an attempted murder Wednesday at an Ellenton coin & gold shop.

It happened at Vandegraff's Cortez Coins on U.S. 301 around 5pm Wednesday.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, the suspect entered the shop requesting an appraisal for some jewelry.  As the owner was helping him, the suspect pulled a handgun and struck the victim on the top of the head.  As the victim staggered backwards, the suspect fired at least three shots at him.

The victim retrieved a pistol from behind the counter and fired once at the suspect as he fled.
