BRADENTON, Fla. - One man is dead after he was shot during a Pop Warner football practice in Bradenton.
The shooting happened before 8:30 p.m. Thursday night at Norma Lloyd Park, located in the 1000 block of 24th Street West. The victim, 39-year-old Brenton Coleman, Sr., was standing in the parking lot of the 13th AV Dream Center when the shooting occurred.
Bradenton Police estimate 300-400 spectators were at the park to watch the Manatee Mustangs take part in their first practice of the season. No other injuries were reported.
"Having that many people here can help us if they speak up and tell us what they saw," said Lieutenant James Racky with the Bradenton Police Department. "We need the community to help us on this one. Somebody knows who did this. We need to bring them to justice."
Detectives say this was not a random act, and the victim was a target. Bradenton Police say they're searching for two gunmen.
While there may have been many spectators at the practice, police believe many of them fled once they heard the gunshots. That's why the BPD is actively searching for any witnesses.
Presently, Detective James Curulla, and the Manatee Homicide Investigative Unit is investigating this incident as a homicide. The victim has been identified as Mr. Brenton D. Coleman Sr., B/M, 40 Years of Age, last residing in the 3200 block 14th Street West, Bradenton, FL.
This is the 6th Homicide that has occurred within the City of Bradenton during 2013.
