BRADENTON – In a follow-up to a story we told you about earlier this year, a 77-year-old woman dubbed the "black widow" -- with ties to the Suncoast -- has been sentenced for drugging her newlywed husband.
Melissa Weeks was facing Attempted Murder charges in Canada. However, last month she pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Administering a Noxious Substance and failing to provide proper care for her husband.
She was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison.
In 1992 she spent five years in prison for killing her second husband.
In 2000 she moved to Bradenton and married Robert Friedrich. A year later he died, and his family claims she took hundreds of thousands of dollars from his estate.
Following Weeks’s arrest last fall for the Attempted Murder of her most recent husband, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said they were taking a second look at the death of Friedrich.
No charges have been filed in that case.
