MANATEE COUNTY - The latest unemployment numbers further highlight the importance of small businesses to our economy, and here locally as well.

Florida's Chief Financial Officer, Jeff Atwater, was in Manatee County Friday to announce a new initiative for small businesses.

Atwater addressed community leaders and small business owners at the Manatee Chamber of Commerce.

Atwater told the crowd that he understands the importance of the private sector and the sacrifices entrepreneurs make.

For that reason, the chamber is implementing the CEO Roundtable program for its members. Top decision makers and managers from local businesses will come together to talk about their challenges and share ideas about possible solutions.

“We want a strong small business community around Manatee County. We're not wishing anyone else ill. We're not trying to step over anyone else. It matters when we're all strong,” says Atwater.

The CEO Roundtable program will begin next month.

According to Atwater, 4 out of 5 Floridians work for a small business.
