BRADENTON, FL. - On March 1,the Florida Highway Patrol will begin Operation P.E.D.S. on U.S. 41 between State Road 70 and Bayshore Gardens Parkway.

This pedestrian education and enforcement detail will commence at 6:00 pm and conclude at 10:00 pm.

Troopers will be looking for pedestrian, bicycle and motorist violations that occur at or near intersections.

The purpose of this detail is to reduce pedestrian and cyclist related traffic crashes.

During year 2012, the Florida Highway Patrol investigated 12 pedestrian fatality crashes in Manatee County.

Pedestrian Safety:

• Walk on sidewalks.

• Cross at marked crosswalks or intersections.

• Dress to be seen. Wear visible clothing.

• Follow the pedestrian signal, not the overhead traffic signal.

  • 2 Don't Threaten or Abuse. Threats of harming another person will not be tolerated. AND PLEASE TURN OFF CAPS LOCK.
  • 3 Be Truthful. Don't knowingly lie about anyone or anything.
  • 4 Be Nice. No racism, sexism or any sort of -ism that is degrading to another person.
