BRADENTON - Students and faculty of a Bradenton elementary school are mourning the loss of their assistant principal.

According to Manatee County School officials, Wendy Suarez, the assistant principal at Jessie P. Miller Elementary, was killed in a car accident near Okeechobee on Friday.

Right now information about the crash is limited, but an official at the school tells ABC 7 that Suarez was a pedestrian at the time of the accident.

Originally from South Carolina, Suarez worked as a guidance counselor and assistant principal before joining the staff at Miller Elementary in January, 2011.

A support team from the Manatee County School District has been made available to the students, and Monday, several classes created sympathy cards for her family.

The school's principal describes her as a wonderful person and a friend.  “I think her legacy needs to be that she was a loving light to everyone who crossed her path, and she cared about everyone very deeply,” says Barry Dunn.

Wendy Suarez is survived by her husband and two step children.

Funeral arrangements are still being finalized.
