MANATEE COUNTY - A Palmetto man is in jail after reportedly pulling a gun on an off-duty deputy and threatening to shoot him

19-year-old Jordan Hird was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm upon a LEO.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, just before 6pm Friday, an off-duty reserve deputy followed Hird's vehicle on State Road 64 from the Country Creek area into the parking lot of a Publix to "talk to him about his improper driving."

The deputy says Hird became angry and threatened to shoot the deputy several times before pulling out a black semi-automatic handgun and pointing it at him.

The deputy backed off and Hird fled the area.  At the deputy's urging, the suspect's girlfriend made a call to contact Hird, who was later located and his vehicle searched.

The gun was not found, and may have been a BB gun.

Hird was arrested without incident and transported to jail.
