MANATEE COUNTY - Manatee County Sheriff's Deputies have decided not to let the police union handle their salary negotiations.

Deputies below the rank of sergeant voted on the measure that would allow the Police Benevolent Association handle collective bargaining talks.

201 voted no, while just 122 said yes.

Deputies assigned to the corrections bureau were not part of the vote.

The PBA has two weeks to file an appeal.
