MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - A man attempting to win his ex-wife back early Sunday morning was unsuccessful, but did manage to get her new boyfriend arrested, according to deputies.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says that around 1:30am Sunday, 57-year-old Edward Stidd drove to a home in the Banks community in Lakewood Ranch where his ex-wife now lives. He says he hoped to reconcile with her, and knocked on the door several times.

That’s when deputies say his ex-wife's boyfriend opened the door holding an AK-47 assault rifle. The boyfriend, 28-year-old Bryan Kelsey, reportedly fired one round at Stidd's car as he tried to drive away. The shot struck the pavement near the car.

Kelsey now faces charges of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle.

Deputies say debris from the shot damaged Stidd's car.
