Crash leaves 6-year-old in critical condition

MANATEE COUNTY - A 6-year-old girl is in critical condition at All Children's Hospital following a crash in Bradenton Wednesday morning.

It happened on 75th Street West at the intersection with Cortez Road at 7:26am.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck driven by 21-year-old Coby Hickman of Dekalb, Illinois was headed southbound on 75th Street, waiting at a green light to turn left onto Cortez Road.

As the traffic light light turned yellow, Hickman proceeded to turn left and collided with a car headed north through the intersection.

Hickman was not injured in the crash, but one of the three children in the other car, 6-year-old Onicka Patterson, was critically injured and flown to All Children's via helicopter.

4-year-old Julian Patterson was also seriously injured and taken to Blake Medical Center.  10-year-old Tavares Patterson suffered minor injuries and was taken to Blake as well.

The driver of the car, 30-year-old Donna Pearson, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bayfront Hospital.

According to the FHP report, none of the children in the car were restrained.

The driver of the truck was cited for failure to yield right of way.
