MANATEE COUNTY – As tourism numbers on the Suncoast continue to rise, soon people visiting the town of Anna Maria may have to pay to park.
The Bradenton Herald reports that Anna Maria city officials are considering the measure as a way to bring in more income for the island. The idea came up after the July 4th holiday, where it’s estimated the city, which is located along the northern tip of Anna Maria Island, had more than 51,000 visitors into the city limits.
But those opposed to the idea say it would hurt businesses.
The city commission is slated to discuss the issue at their August 22nd meeting.
