MANATEE COUNTY - A Bradenton couple have been arrested for child abuse after their child was brought to the hospital for seizures, but found to have head trauma.

24-year-old Carlos Gutierrez faces charges of Aggravated Child Abuse and Child Neglect.  20-year-old Melida Motino has been charged with Child Neglect.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, on August 21st, the couple brought their 1-year-old child to Blake Medical Center emergency room for seizures.

A CT scan of the child revealed skull fractures and a subdural hemorrhage, and she was transported to All Children's Hospital for further treatment.  The injuries were determined to be caused by abusive head trauma.

Authorities say an investigation discovered that Gutierrez had been home watching the child and his two sons during the day while the mother was at work.  He says the child began tensing up and believed she was having a seizure.  He reportedly called Motino and decided to wait until she got home.

The two did not call 911 and didn't bring the child to the hospital until several hours later.

Gutierrez denied any trauma to the child and offered no explanation for the injury.
