MANATEE COUNTY - The Manatee High School Hurricanes are one game away from going to the state championship.
This will be the fifth time the Canes, currently 13-0, have taken on St. Thomas Aquinas in the state semifinals.
Today, fans rallied around the team, sure that they'll bring home a win.
There's no question about it and three busloads of fans all agree. "Manatee all the way!"
Today, the team remained focused as they loaded up the buses before heading to Ft. Lauderdale to take on St. Thomas Aquinas High School for the fifth time in the state semi-finals since 2005, and out of the four times the team has played St. Thomas, they've only won once.
“It's going to come down to us playing our game and playing up to our capabilities, and if we do that, then we'll take whatever happens,” says Coach Joe Kinnan.
But tonight, players on the currently undefeated team say they'll be adding one more win. “We're going to go down there and bring a win back to Manatee County,” says Junior Trevon Walters.
Students say they back the team 100%. “The kids are really pumped, the students are pumped, the players and coaches are pumped. I actually have a varsity coach as my first period teacher and he was happy and excited, getting ready to go down there,” says Desmond Smalls.
The fans say they're just as excited to go and show their support in ft. Lauderdale. “It's all for the players, and they just love to see us in the stands dressed in red, waving and yelling, of course when I'm on the sideline I can't waive and yell, but I can give them a high five,” says Bill Wells.
Now, there's just one more thing to do. “We're gonna go to St. Thomas and win a football game, that's what we're gonna do-- Hurricane Nation!,” says Senior Free Safety Willie Smith.
