MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — Coast Guard boat crew members aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Station Cortez rescue a mariner just before he struck a bridge.

It happened Thursday at the Cortez Road Bridge as the area experienced severe weather from Tropical Storm Andrea as the system passed to the north.

The Coast Guard reminds boaters to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety due to strong gusty winds associated with the outer weather bands of tropical storms.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Russell Ackerman shot video of the scene.
