BRADENTON, Fla. - Investigators are searching for the driver of a vehicle they say injured a bicyclist early Wednesday morning on U.S. 41 in Bradenton.

The crash happened around 1:40am a few blocks south of Cortez Road.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Crystal Stankiewicz was riding a bicycle northbound on the right shoulder approaching Orlando Avenue.  That's when a vehicle headed northbound in the right lane failed to maneuver around the bicyclist and struck her with the front right side of the vehicle.

Stankiewicz was taken to Blake Medical Center for treatment to critical injuries.

The vehicle fled the scene.  Based on debris left at the scene, FHP believes it to possibly be a blue SUV/truck that's missing a right headlight and right side mirror.

Investigators are asking anyone who many have witnessed this crash or has knowledge as to the identity or location of the hit and run driver is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800, Crash Investigator Trooper Verdecia.
