PALMETTO - An injured pit bull found wandering the streets with head wounds from an axe-like object is ready to find a new home.

According to Manatee County Animal Services, after healing from his wounds and finishing up heartworm treatments, "Axel" is now ready to be adopted.

The pit bull was taken in by the shelter back in January and has spent the last few months recuperating from his head wounds.

Shelter officials ask that prospective owners be at least 25 years old and experienced with handling pit bulls. He'll also require a fenced in yard, and a month of extra training to get used to his new owner.

If you're interested in adopting Axel, you can contact Manatee County Animal Services.

I love that there are owner requirements; it helps to ensure this dog will have a happier, & long, life.
