MANATEE CO.- Amid the Manatee County School District's financial problems, Superintendent Rick Mills is calling for a new investigation.

In a letter to State Inspector General Mike Blackburn of the Florida Department of Education, Mills is requesting a look into the financial practices of the school district's leadership team from 2010 to 2012.

Mills says although he was aware of the district's financial problems upon accepting the job, he was shocked by the "sheer scope and magnitude of financial errors, neglect, incompetence, malfeasance, and misfeasance uncovered in subsequent months as I built a new senior leadership team."

The district remains hopeful its financial status will improve.  In January, the Deputy Superintendent of Schools told ABC 7 the district's general fund should have an $8 million balance in June.
