SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - After a nationwide search, the Sailors have named a new head football coach.
In a press release, Sarasota High School announced Friday that Spencer Hodges had been named the head coach for Sailors football.
Coach Hodges comes to Sarasota High from Braden River High School where he served as the tight end and running backs coach and helped the Pirates to the 2018 Class 7A regional semifinals.
Principal David Jones said Hodges is the right person for the job with an extensive background in high school sports.
“We set the standard very high, knowing that we needed the one right person; we’ve found him in Spencer Hodges. He comes to us with award-winning collegiate playing experience, and he has an impressive professional, collegiate, and high school coaching background,” says Principal Jones.
A Manatee High School student-athlete alumni, Coach Hodges coached at IMG Academy before landing at Braden River. He also served as team captain while playing offensive line at Jacksonville University.
According to Coach Hodges, he is excited to be a part of Sarasota High School football.
"Sarasota has the tradition, it has the history, it has the right people and facilities. I’m just one piece. I’m beyond excited to meet everyone who is or wants to be involved,” says Coach Hodges.
Sarasota High School will officially introduce Coach Hodges to all returning and interested Sarasota High students on Monday, Feb. 5.
