SARASOTA - The curtains are closed and the stage is empty now that the Golden Apple Dinner Theatre has shut its doors for the final time. But you have a chance to take home a piece of its history.
The Golden Apple is selling off 42 years worth of costumes. And while it's bittersweet for many, shoppers say taking home a costume or two is an opportunity they just can't pass up.
No matter what you may be looking for, chances are you'll find it in their storefront on Lime Street in Sarasota. More than 3,000 costumes and even entire sets from shows are now for sale.
But Roberta MacDonald, former owner of the Golden Apple, says this isn't a sad time. She says it's just one door closing, so that another can open. “We are on to Plato, which is a not for profit theatrical and teaching organization. So all the money goes to Plato. We’re looking at new space, and we need all the money we can get.”
The store is already open to the public through Sunday, March 17th, from 9-5. It's located at 463 Lime Avenue in Sarasota.
