SARASOTA - Authorities have released the identity of a Sarasota man that died Wednesday while painting a building on the Sarasota Military Academy campus.

Police say 55-year-old Mitch Phelps was about 20-30 feet high in a hydraulic snorkel lift Wednesday morning when other workers found him slumped over at the torso area.  A report says he was unresponsive and appeared to be trapped.

The workers lowered the machine and removed him, and called 911.  He was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for his injuries, but was later pronounced dead.

Phelps is believed to be an employee of Service Painting of Florida.
