SARASOTA, Fla. - It's scam awareness month here at ABC 7, and sometimes exposing these types of things can be hazardous. That was the case today for 7 South Newsroom reporter Josh Taylor, who is investigating an alleged rental property scam.

In 12 years of covering stories on the Suncoast. Josh has seen a lot of things. Getting carjacked is certainly its own chapter.

It started out with a 91-year old Venice woman claiming she had rented an 11-bedroom home on Siesta Key for a family reunion. It turns out though that after some code violations the home now only has five bedrooms.

She wanted her money back but was told no, even though it was in her contract that she was entitled to it.

ABC 7 went looking for answers, and Josh was setting up his camera Friday afternoon when this happened…

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says the woman's name is Jean Price. A neighbor tells ABC 7 that she works for the man who owns the home, local chiropractor Dr. Craig Siegal. Siegal called us Friday evening saying she used to work for him but is just a friend and neighbor who watches out for the home.

We are continuing to follow the story. Siegal says he's trying to make it right but he just doesn't have the money.

The State Attorney's office will decide if Price is charged with Grand Theft Auto.

Please WWSB, do us a favor, and let some minor charges against her stand. People like this skipped kindergarten, and still need to learn how to behave nicely.

She touched you? your equipment, had no regard for other peoples property when putting the tripod in the vehicle and parking it in a puddle.

She seems to be the "perfect" person to run interference for Craig Siegel.

We were planning on having our wedding party and reception at the home. Flights to check out the place ahead of time are over 500 plus the time lost. The place had all great reviews up until the code violations. Craig had living area in non conforming areas so it had to be removed and that's when all the people started getting ripped off. He emailed us 2 weeks prior to our stay and told us we couldn't use it only the top level and couldn't get our money back. I had to scramble to find other locations for people to stay with a 2 week window. Not easy to do affordably. we paid 5090. there is a long list of renters since july when the county placed fines and leins on the property. Sarasota news leader ran a story back in july about this place. I was one of the reviews mentioned on trip advisor. We met the lady in the video and she is looking after the property to some extent and being "neighborly" whether or not she is getting paid for it is another story. she told us the lower level wasn't being used because a water heat blew up. we knew that was a lie and every thing out of her mouth was fabricated or not truthful.

My wife and I had this place rented for Jan 2-9 for our wedding party. I was the one who put the second review on trip advisor. If anyone else who got screwed over by this guy contact me. I left a message with the guy who ran the story so if you want to get ahold of me he will have my contact information.

I am so glad that this crazy lady did what she did because it will bring attention to Dr. Craig Siegel. He is a total scam artist who stole our $5,000 by misrepresenting his property and now he wont give us our money back. He is a chiropractor in Sarasota and he is committing fraud and theft. Just in the last 2 weeks we have found that we are not alone. We know of at least 4 others who he has scammed an refuses to refund their money. Maybe a 91 year old victim and a crazy friend who steals a reporters car is just what we need to finally get some attention on this guy! Dr. Craig Siegel, if you read this....man up! GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK!
