PUNTA GORDA, FL. - Detectives arrested a woman Wednesday for stabbing a woman in the area of Pelican Drive and Grove Boulevard in the Charlotte Ranchettes east of Punta Gorda.
Charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Knife) was 27-year-old Angela Denise Sutton of Punta Gorda.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Charlotte Regional Medical Center at 5:19 p.m. concerning a woman who had been stabbed. The victim said she was hanging out with friends at the “mud hole” where she and Sutton got into an argument. She said Sutton approached and pushed her, and she pushed back. The victim said Sutton then said she was going to “Gut her like a fish.” The victim said she put her hands up saying she was not worth fighting over, then Sutton pulled out a Smith & Wesson type pocket knife and stabbed her in the abdomen.
The victim said she was able to get away and was taken to the hospital; she was later released. A deputy located Sutton and took her in for questioning. Sutton said she automatically pulled her knife out of her waist band when she saw the victim walk towards her and had it ready for use. Sutton said the victim was trying to rekindle their friendship and told her to get away from her. Sutton said the victim saw her pull out the knife and warns her to stay away from her or she would cut her. Sutton then said the victim hit her in the mouth with a closed fist. Sutton stated she held her knife in a raised position and shoved it downward into the victim’s lower abdomen.
Sutton then advised she would go with a deputy to the location where she left the knife. They went to an apartment complex at 1200 Slash Pine Circle in Punta Gorda and the deputy learned Sutton lied about where she hid the knife and kept changing her story. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Charlotte County Jail where she remains on no bond.
