SARASOTA - A vehicle pursuit along Suncoast roadways Monday morning ended safely after deputies were able to stop the vehicle and convince the driver to surrender.
It happened just after 9am Monday. According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of State Road 72 and the Bee Ridge Extension. Upon arrival they located the reported vehicle, a black Hummer, which began to flee the area and drove towards a deputy's vehicle.
The vehicle was eventually stopped on the northbound I-75 on-ramp from Bee Ridge Road via a PIT maneuver.
After a stand-off in which deputies feared the driver was suicidal, 41-year-old Kristina Grzep of Sarasota emerged from the vehicle and was arrested.
Deputies say she had been huffing nitrous oxide.
She was taken to an area hospital for observation, and later transferred to the Sarasota County Jail. She faces charges for Fleeing to Elude, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer, Unlawful Distribution of Nitrous Oxide and two counts of Resisting Arrest without Violence.
More charges could come.
