SARASOTA – Holiday shipping crunch time is here.

Monday was expected to be the busiest shipping day of the year for FedEx, where 300,000 employees are working around the country to move 280 million packages. That's up 13% from last year.

The U.S. Postal Service is also forecasting a record breaking holiday season, with their busiest day coming up next week.

And there's a lot of competition between the carriers. To see where we could get the best deal, we brought a 10-pound box to three different shippers -- the USPS, UPS, and FedEx -- to find out which was cheaper and fastest.

The first place we checked: UPS on 17th Street in Sarasota. We were in and out in about 5 minutes. It cost $15.81 to ship our package and it would get there in two business days.

Next stop: the Post Office. It had the longest wait; it took us 15 to 20 minutes, and it's going to get worse soon. The Post Office expects Monday, December 17th to be the busiest day in its 237-year history.

And it was the cheapest way to mail our package, costing $12.19 by truck, which won't arrive until Saturday or later. Priority Mail will get it there in 2 or 3 days for $18.15. Overnight will cost you $65.50.

And then we checked out FedEx, where there wasn't a line, and they say they'll get the package there fastest -- in 2 business days for $18.24.
