Listen, friends. It's been another full weekend in Sarasota. Honestly, it feels like I can't wait for Monday to come so I can go back to work and actually get some rest.
We had another celebrity sighting this week, but first we’ll talk about some of this weekend's events.
Tons of foodies flocked to the Sarasota Polo Grounds in Lakewood Ranch for the 12th annual Suncoast Food and Wine Festival. The beautiful day was filled with cooking demonstrations, live music, and of course as the name suggests, plenty of food and wine.
But i started to wonder: Were the attendees there for the food, or were they there for the wine?
“That’s a good question,” said Kailey Stevens of Sarasota.
“I think I’m always enjoying the wine more,” said Jessica Stone of Sarasota. “But what’s nice is the food portions definitely were not samples, so we’ve eaten well for the past three hours.”
“I was here for both,” added Stevens. “Actually, I had no idea what I was coming for. I was here for the wine, but the food has been a really incredible surprise.”
The decision to include beer selections this year was met with great support from this year’s crowd. “The feedback has been great, to be honest with you,” said Darwin Santa Maria, chef/owner of Darwin’s on 4th. “I love wine. I mean, this is about wine and food. But the thing is that people like something different. They’ve been drinking wine all day, so they come here in line and try all the beers. And especially when we’re a craft brew pub, they’re enjoying all of the beers that we’re serving today.”
USF continued the outdoor theme on Sunday for brunch on the bay. Hundreds more trotted out to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this scholarship event, as restaurants brought their best food to the campus.
So many generous restaurant owners had booths set up both days. I honestly had to wonder, who was actually in their restaurants this weekend?
Those guys & gals have to be tired today, but they were both great events with great food so hopefully they can take enjoy a much deserved break.
Ok, now to our celebrity sighting this week. If you were a fan of alternative rock in the 90s, you might be kicking yourself that you missed Eddie Vedder in town this week. My sources tell me they spotted the Pearl Jam lead singer in town this weekend for a wedding. The story is that he got up and treated the entire party & guests to an original song for the bride & groom.
All I know is this…if you got Eddie Vedder to sing your first dance, you are one cool bride & groom.
