Water main break causes traffic problems in Sarasota

UPDATE: The Sarasota County Government reported both Beneva Road southbound lanes are reopened to Clark Road and one northbound lane remains closed.


The Sarasota County Government reported that detours and lane closures are to continue for Beneva Road at Beneva Woods Boulevard through Friday. 

Crews will work to fix the extensive damage under the pavement. 


Sarasota Sheriffs report that southbound lanes of Beneva between Proctor and Clark Roads will remain closed overnight for asphalt repairs.

One lane will be closed northbound. Please seek alternate routes.

As of 6 p.m. Monday, residents in the Beneva Woods neighborhood report they are still unable to access water.

Residents are asked to boil water until told otherwise.


SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) – Drivers in Sarasota had a slower commute this morning due to a water main break.

A water main break at the intersection of Beneva Woods Boulevard and Beneva Road, between Proctor and Clark Roads.

According to the county, a 12-inch water main began leaking water on Monday.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office helped with traffic control and detours.

About 100-utilities customers are affected.

No word yet on what caused the break.
