Vitale hands out scholarships to five Girls & Boys Club members

SARASOTA - Wherever ESPN commentator Dick Vitale goes, benevolence is usually close behind. Thursday Dickie V was at the Lee Wetherington Boys and Girls Club in Sarasota to award five scholarships to deserving club members.

The recipients were:

Kevin Stalker, a 19-year-old counselor of the Boys & girls Clubs of Sarasota County. Kevin was named Youth of the Year in 2012 and continued to win the State Youth of the Year competing against thousands of youth from the State of Florida. Kevin plans to attend the State College of Florida and pursue a business major. He graduated from Booker High School this past May where he played football. He has been a member of the Lee Wetherington BGC for 10 years.

Angolie Bodden, an 18-year-old counselor and was a member of the BGC Keystone Club and teen volunteer. She plans to attend the Air Force Academy. Anjolie attended Riverview High School where she played volleyball. She also coached volleyball at the Lee Wetherington BGC. She has been a member of the Club for 10 years.

Makayla Francis, an 18-year-old member who attended North Port High and plans to attend Edison State College and study Elementary Education. Makayla participated in Torch and Keystone Club, character and leadership programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs and has been a member for 10 years.

Caio Gilot, an 18-year-old graduate of North Port High School. Caio plans to attend State College of Florida where she will study Criminal Justice. She participated in both Torch and Keystone Club, character and leadership programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs. She has been a member in North Port for eight years.

Allyiah Bartley, 17-year-old member will graduate from Booker High School in 2014. She plans to attend Valencia Community College where she will study physical Therapy. Allyiah has been a member of the Roy McBean Club for 12 years, and is the Roy McBean BGC Keystone President. She is also Booker High Key Club's Secretary.

The scholarships are for $1,000 each.

Vitale has now donated over $80,000 in scholarships in the past 16 years.
