SARASOTA, Fla. -- In downtown Sarasota, a huge parade to honor our military men and women was held Monday morning.

The annual Memorial Day Parade started at ten at the east end of Main Street and headed towards the bayfront. A host of veterans groups, high school marching bands, color guards and civic groups participated in the annual event, along with plenty of red, white and blue floats and music.

Thousands turned out to pay their respects to those that gave their live for the country.

The parade ended at JD Hamel park, where the city's war memorial sits. At 11am, a Memorial Day ceremony was held there. During the ceremony, a traditional 21 gun salute took place to honor the service men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Among those in attendance was Suncoast Congressman Vern Buchanan.  Also on hand was Robert O'Neill, a Suncoast resident and Pearl Harbor survivor.
