SARASOTA, Fla. - A three month old puppy is recovering after Sarasota Police say a man poured hot sauce all over the dog this weekend.

The dog named "Gizmo" is being treated at Bay Road Animal Hospital in Sarasota. The dachshund/chihuahua mix weighs only one and a half pounds.

The veterinarian treating Gizmo says he was in poor condition before he was abused. But the dog is starting to eat and showing more responsiveness, and he's hoping it continues.

"We don't know where we are with this. It’s still early into it. We're going to take it one day at a time, but right now he's made vast improvement from last evening until today and through today and hopefully we'll continue to see that," says David Smith.

Ephrian Myles is charged with felony Aggravated Animal Cruelty. Police say on Sunday he poured the hot sauce on the puppy's body because it was yelping during a seizure.
