MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A trial date has been set for the veterinarian for Napier's Animal Sanctuary, whose owners are under investigation for animal cruelty and fraud.

According to the Bradenton Herald, Edward Dunham will stand trial in October. Investigators say he did not follow proper protocol while performing surgery on a dog.

This Tuesday, the owners of the animal sanctuary, Alan and Sheree Napier, were charged with several counts of Scheme to Defraud and Unlawful Solicitation of Funds.

Back in April, the Napiers were charged with 15 counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty.
