VENICE, Fla. - A Good Samaritan jumped into the water Monday to rescue a woman who had fallen into the Intracoastal Waterway, firefighters say.

It happened shortly after 5 p.m. behind the Harbor Lights subdivision near the north bridge.

According to the Venice Fire Department, the senior victim had driven a motorized scooter off an 8-foot high embankment, suffering head and body wounds.

First responders arrived to find the victim and her helper in the water. A ladder was lowered to help them. The victim was then flown to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for treatment.
